McLardy McShane – $100k+ FightMND

FightMND golf day

McLardy McShane Insurance Brokers is pleased to announce that its charity golf event at Portsea GC on 10 January has raised over $105,000 to support FightMND, the organisation headed by AFL Legend Neale Daniher working to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

With a star-studded field including Front Bar comedy duo Mick Molloy and Sam Pang, this year’s field faced extreme weather with over 83 kilometre per hour winds and drenching downpours, but the majority of golfers persisted.

McLardy McShane Group CEO Don McLardy said “We couldn’t have done this without the support of our sponsors and the dedication of all who attended. We’re a business built on relationships and shared values, and this just demonstrates how we can harness the power of our network to benefit this worthy charity. MND is a heartbreaking disease but with the help of our clients and friends we’ve shown that we can come together as a community and do something about it.”

About the McLardy McShane FightMND golf day

It all started with Don’s idea of getting a group of colleagues and friends together to network, have some fun and raise money for a great cause, all in the beautiful surrounds of the Mornington Peninsula.

The event kicks off with a Canadian Foursome-style golf tournament. With a capacity of 128 people, the event is invitation-only and has been sold out all three years.

There is also an additional challenge by the McLardy McShane founders – for those who accept the challenge, they must beat Don and Mike’s score (in which case the founders will donate an additional $250), or they must donate $250 themselves. Don and Mike had to donate over $4,000, but they collected over $13,000 from the other competitors so a good result!

Dinner and auction

Following the golf, everyone gathered at the magnificent Portsea Golf Club facility (also a client of McLardy McShane) to be entertained at the dinner hosted by advertising guru and Gruen Transfer panellist Russel Howcroft. Russel introduced an amazing AFL panel consisting leading journalists Mike Sheahan and Caro Wilson who interviewed AFL chief Gil McLachlan and Demon legend Max Gawn. Following a hysterical recap of the day by Mick Molloy and Sam Pang, a raffle and live auction conducted by Michael Teague of Ray White raised more than $50,000 to conclude a sensational day!

Don summarised the day by saying “After arguably the worst golf weather conditions you can imagine, I’m very impressed at the commitment of all involved. In the end we had a great day and an even better outcome than we expected! We can’t wait until next year to do it all again.”
